Is TruVision Health a Scam?

TruVision Health is known widely in the Plexus Worldwide Ambassador circle for having Dave Browns' products, ones that work. But do they?

Dave Brown was the co-formulator, along with Boyd Wathen, that brought Plexus their pink drink, Plexus Slim. This product was formerly called, LiquaVie, a product owned by Dave and Boyd's company, Nature 4 U.

Boyd Wathen has always stayed in the shadows, his involvement, if any, with Plexus Worldwide is unknown. Dave Brown has since parted ways with Plexus Worldwide aka Plexus Holdings.  TruVision Health and Plexus are in the midst of legal battles. Dave Brown and Boyd Wathen are the owners of TruVision Health, so it will be interesting to see where their battle ends up.

These two weight loss supplement creators and co-founders have brought to TruVision a product called: TruWeight and Energy

Product ingredients on the No-No list, and weight loss ingredients to avoid list contained in the TruWeight and Energy are:

AMP:

AMP (4-Amino-2-Methylpentane Citrate) is a substance produced in Pouchung Tea. It acts as a metabolism “booster” and assists the body in metabolizing fatty tissue. When combined with other ingredients such a nominal amounts of caffeine, bitter orange and Phenylethylamine (PEA) it enhances the body’s ability to shed adipose tissue in a healthy manner without the side effects of jitters or cardiovascular complications. As the body metabolizes excess fat stores a subtle increase in energy is usually experienced.

Bitter Orange:

The combination of Bitter Orange peel and caffeine is a safe alternative to thermogenic products. The active ingredient in Bitter Orange is Synephrine, which is a primary amine similar to ephedrine and phenylethylamine (PEA) (Figure 1). However, in contrast, synephrine shows no negative side effects that eventually limited the sale of ephedra(Stohs et al., 2012). Bitter orange works by increasing the amount of glucose consumption by binding to adrenoreceptors, but at a much lower and healthier Kd than ephedrine (Stohs et al., 2011; Hong et al., 2012; Vinson et al., 2012).

Dendrobium:

Dendrobium is one of fifty of fundamental herbs in traditional medicine. It is found in certain species of the Orchid family. The complexity of the plant is largely attributed to its unique profile of alkaloids, such as: Dendrine, Nobiline, Nobilonine, etc (Dr. Duke Phytochemical Database). Extracts enriched in dendrobium alkaloids show many beneficial effects, including: increased focus, enhanced confidence, and increased energy. Unlike other stimulants these effects are not typically seen with an increase in blood pressure. Because of Dendrobium’s unique properties it is considered to be highly effective when coupled with synephrine (Bitter Orange) and nominal amounts of caffeine in helping individuals obtain their weight loss goals.

(descrpition taken from TruVision site)

These product ingredients should really be described as this:

AMP:

AMP citrate has never previously been sold for human consumption. There are no peer-reviewed studies assessing the pharmacology, toxicology, and safety of the compound.

It is a strong central nervous stimulant that increases energy and focus.

AMP citrate has been reported to cause:

jitteryness

rapid heartbeat

dizziness

headache

a crash after it has worn off

There are also reports of depression and anxiety with use.

If you are looking for a replacement for DMAA, AMP is a fair contender.

How about combining that ingredient with this one:

Bitter Orange:

Bitter Orange is similar to ephedra aka ma-huang. It can can squeeze your blood vessels, increase blood pressure and cause the heart to beat faster.

If that's not enough stimulant for you, they've added:

Dendrobium:

It might increase your chance of seizures, and it can slow breathing and heart rate and cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. It will give you another added kick as it too is very similar in characteristics of AMP and DMAA.

So what does this mean?

It means that these suppliers know that people are lazy and want that quick fix, they know that your body is going to be revved up, you will have a ton of energy from that. You might as well smoke crack or do meth. As Dave Brown once said, "smoke and mirrors"

In my opinion the side effects just aren't worth the risk.

There is no way to know what is actually in any dietary supplement, there are so many that contain adulterated ingredients, and the labels are required to state specifically what is in that bottle and in what amount if the manufacture claims they have a 'proprietary blend'.  The only way to know for sure is to have the products analyzed in a lab or look for third-party certification.

Let's face it, by the time it goes to a lab or reaches anyone that hasn't been paid off to certify any product it may be too late for some users.

ROCA LABS BLOCK NEGATIVE REVIEWS FROM WEB

FROM TRUTH IN ADVERTISING.....

FTC SUES WEIGHT-LOSS MARKETERS FOR BLOCKING BAD REVIEWS September 28, 2015

Consumers who fail to reach their weight-loss goals with one company’s purported stomach-shrinking powders marketed as an alternative to gastric bypass surgery face threats of litigation and hundreds of dollars in charges if they want to share a negative review of their experience.  But consumers only find out about that non-disparagement provision — also known as gag clauses — after they purchase the product, which the FTC is alleging in a complaint filed against Florida-based Roca Labs is an unfair practice that violates law.

The FTC also asserts that Roca Labs, whose sales since 2010 top $20 million, lacks scientific evidence for several of its weight-loss claims (which may explain why the company sought to shield itself from bad reviews). Roca Labs touts the line of weight-loss products as a safe and cost-effective alternative to gastric bypass surgery. The complaint seeks to halt the deceptive advertising and refund customers who purchased the products, which started at $480 for a three-to-four month supply.

Sibutramine

Sibutramine is a controlled substance that was removed from the market in October 2010 for safety reasons, yet it still keeps finding its way into the hands of innocent people.

According to the FDA " sibutramine is known to substantially increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients and may present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. Thankfully, the FDA has been able to alert consumers of this substance, sibutramine, and the weight loss companies that sell sibutramine laced products.

Meizi Super Power Fruits Herbal Slimming Formula contains sibutramine; as confirmed by FDA labs and reported to consumers on September 3, 2015.

They are advising consumers not to purchase or use Meizi Super Power Fruits Herbal Slimming Formula, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on the website, www.slimeast.com.

The lawsuit, filed two years ago, alleged that Herbalife is a pyramid scheme in which the company’s independent distributors earn more money recruiting new sales people than they do selling its products, an allegation Herbalife has repeatedly and vigorously denied.

Dietary Supplements

Dietary Supplements

Dietary supplements may seem like harmless health boosters. But while some have proven benefits, many don't. Unlike drugs, dietary supplements aren't evaluated or reviewed by FDA for safety and effectiveness, and even "natural" supplements can be risky depending on the medicines you take or the medical conditions you have. In recent years, hundreds of supplements also have been found to be tainted with drugs and other chemicals. Always talk to your doctor before you take a new supplement, and avoid any supplement claiming it's a "cure."

What's a Dietary Supplement?

Dietary supplements include:
  • vitamins and minerals
  • amino acids
  • enzymes
  • herbs
  • animal extracts
  • probiotics
They come in a number of forms, including capsules, liquids, and powders. But while dietary supplements might seem similar to drugs, and some even have drug-like effects, there's a big difference: Dietary supplements don't undergo FDA review for safety and effectiveness before they're sold.

Are Dietary Supplements Safe?

Dietary supplements aren't always safe or harmless. Even "natural" supplements can be risky for people on certain medicines or with certain medical conditions, and some supplements have been found to be tainted with drugs or other chemicals. See Tainted Products.
Even "traditional remedies" with a long history of use aren't guaranteed to be safe in all cases.
Substances for which safety concerns have been raised include:
  • comfrey
  • chaparral
  • lobelia
  • germander
  • aristolochia
  • ephedra (ma huang)
  • L-tryptophan
  • germanium
  • magnolia-stephania
  • stimulant laxative ingredients, like those found in dieter's teas
Comfrey, for example, contains certain alkaloids that can cause serious liver damage, and aristolochia can cause kidney failure.
Even some vitamins and minerals, when taken in inappropriate amounts, can cause problems. For example, too much vitamin A can reduce bone mineral density, cause birth defects, and lead to liver damage, according to the National Academy of Sciences.
Always read labels and package inserts and follow product directions. But remember that dietary supplement labels and ingredients aren't evaluated by FDA before they're sold. Check with your health care professional — your best and most important source on whether a supplement is safe for you.
For a list of the dietary supplement ingredients for which FDA has issued alerts, visit FDA's website.

Supplements Claiming to be Cures

Promises for a quick cure or solution for a serious health problem may be hard to resist — but supplements claiming to shrink tumors, cure insomnia, cure impotency, treat Alzheimer's disease, or prevent severe memory loss aren't proven. Besides cheating you out of your money, they also may hurt your health.
Under Federal law, dietary supplements can't be promoted for the treatment of a disease because they aren't proven to be safe and effective.
Treat weight loss products with suspicion, too. Claims that you can eat all you want and still lose weight effortlessly just aren't true. To lose weight — and keep it off — you have to eat fewer calories and increase your activity.
Other tip-offs to a fraud include:

Claims that one product does it all and cures a wide variety of health problems.

"Proven to treat rheumatism, arthritis, infections, prostate problems, ulcers, cancer, heart trouble, hardening of the arteries and more."

Suggestions the product can treat or cure diseases.

"Shrinks tumors," "Cures impotency," or "Prevents severe memory loss."

Words like scientific breakthrough, miraculous cure, exclusive product, secret ingredient, or ancient remedy.

"A revolutionary innovation formulated by using proven principles of natural health-based medical science."

Misleading use of scientific-sounding terms.

"Molecule multiplicity," "glucose metabolism," "thermogenesis," or "insulin receptor sites."

Phony references to Nobel Prize winning technology or science.

FDA's Rules for Health Claims

What kinds of claims can companies make on food and supplement labels? FDA-approved claims:
  • Must be based on significant scientific evidence that shows a strong link between a food substance and a disease or health condition.
  • Can state only that a food substance reduces the risk of certain health problems — not that it can treat or cure a disease. For example: "Calcium may reduce the risk of the bone disease osteoporosis. "
Dietary supplements also can carry claims about the effect of a substance on maintaining the body's normal structure or function — "Product B promotes healthy joints and bones" — but must include the disclaimer: "This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease."
